Women's Tennis Captures SBC Regular Season Championship

JONESBORO, Ark. – For a second straight season the UT Arlington women's tennis team is Sun Belt Conference Regular Season Champions after defeating Arkansas State 4-1 on Friday morning. The Mavericks finished the regular season with a program record 21-2 regular season record and 9-1 record in SBC play.

The Mavericks stumbled in doubles play, falling on court three and court one. Sarina Reinertsen and Carla Pons lost on court three 6-0 before Liz Chileno and Ana Paula Jimenez evened the doubles matches with a 6-2 win on court two.  Momoka Horiguchi and Tara Gorinsek were unable to take court one, falling 6-1.

UTA quickly responded by winning four straight singles matches to capture the win and conference championship. Sarina Reinertsen was the first to capture a point, winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.  Ana Paula Jimenez followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court six.

Needing two points to win, Momoka Horiguchi put the Mavericks one point away with a 6-0, 6-3 win on court two.  Tara Gorinsek continued her undefeated season, capturing the win and the SBC Championship with a 6-4, 6-2 win on court four.

With the win, the Mavericks finish the season in a three-way tie for first place in the Sun Belt Conference with South Alabama and Georgia State. They will await what seed they get for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament which will take place April 21 – 23 in Peachtree City, Georgia.
