ABILENE – The UT Arlington baseball team (11-22) was lost to Abilene Christian (16-17) in seven innings after being run-ruled 15-5 on Tuesday night at Crutcher Scott Field.
Jack Hagan (L, 1-1) started for the Mavericks, allowing five runs off five hits in 3.1 innings pitched.
Ryan Thomas (0.2 IP),
Cade Citelli (2.0 IP),
Connery Peters (0.0 IP) and
Trevor Pruitt (0.0 IP) combined in relief for the Mavericks.
UTA finished with eight hits on the night.
Tanner Rice,
Boone Montgomery and
Sam Crowell each finished with two hits in the game.
Nick Pierce led the Mavericks with three RBI.
The Mavericks went straight to business in the first inning.
Boone Montgomery got on base with a single up the middle before
Nick Pierce connected on his first-career home run to give the Maverick an early lead.
UTA used a short two-out rally in the second to add another run.
Sam Crowell doubled down the left line before
Cason Gregory singled to right-center to push home his 7
th RBI on the season.
The Wildcats responded in the bottom frame, using a two-run home run to score two runs.
After a scoreless third inning, the Wildcats plated three runs off two hits and a sacrifice fly to take a 5-3 lead.
The scoring continued into the fifth inning as the Wildcats used a two-out rally to score four runs off two hits, including a two-run home run.
UTA would cut into the deficit in the top of the seventh, scoring two runs off a single from Montgomery and a ground-out from Pierce.
The Wildcats responded in a big way in the bottom of the seventh, plating six runs to end the game from run-rule. ACU had three hits in the inning and were walked three times, while being hit with two pitches.
UTA will return to Clay Gould Ballpark for a three-game set against #19 Texas State beginning Thursday (April 14) at 6:30 p.m.
