UTA Signs Three Talented Newcomers

Mavs Add Junior College Products Dario Domingos, Kyron Gibson; Local High School Standout Chendall Weaver

ARLINGTON – Following his first full season at the helm of the UT Arlington men's basketball program, head coach Greg Young and the Mavericks have signed a pair of junior college products in Dario Domingos and Kyron Gibson, in addition to local high school standout Chendall Weaver.

Domingos is a 6-8 forward who last year averaged 12 points and 6.9 rebounds per game as a freshman at New Mexico Junior College en route to All-Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) Honorable Mention.

A 6-1 point guard, Gibson garnered Second Team All-American honors from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) this past season after averaging 17 points, 6.4 assists and 3.9 rebounds per contest as a sophomore at Lee College outside Houston.

Weaver led Mansfield Timberview to the UIL 5A State Championship Game in March as the 6-3 guard averaged 17 points and eight rebounds per outing for the year on his way to earning All-State and All-Tournament Team accolades.

"I am so excited about these three signees in the late signing period," stated Young. "Combined with our three early signees from the fall and our returners, we feel like we are putting a roster together that will be exciting to watch. We have made a commitment to recruit Texas high school, junior colleges and AAU grassroots programs and players in our first real recruiting class since being able to evaluate in person after the pandemic."

More information about each signee, including thoughts from Young, are included below.

DARIO DOMINGOS
Hometown: Luanda, Angola
High School: Quality Education Academy

Bio Blast: Recorded six double-doubles with NMJC last year … reached double-figure points 22 times, led by a season-best 22-point effort versus Redlands Community College on Nov. 7 … pulled down a season-high 16 rebounds as part of a 13-point, 16-board double-double against Trinity Valley Community College on Nov. 19 … shot an efficient 62 percent (152-245) from the floor and also a respectable 67.5 percent (79-117) from the free throw line … appeared in all 32 games for the Thunderbirds.

Young's Thoughts: "Dario just finished a terrific season at New Mexico Junior College under head coach Luke Adams in one of the best junior college conferences in the country. Dario is a force down low with a real skill set to score, and is a terrific passer out of the post. His physicality and ability to rebound will make all Mav fans excited. We can't wait to coach and work with Dario, and we're excited about his future here at UT Arlington."
