Softball Tops Eagles in 5-0 Win in Series Opener

ARLINGTON – In a 5-0 win over Georgia Southern Friday afternoon, the UT Arlington softball team picked up its eighth conference win this season as the Mavericks defeated the Eagles in game one of the series.

The Mavs now sit on an overall record of 18-17 and an 8-8 record in Sun Belt play as UTA looks to clinch the series with the Eagles Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. at Allan Saxe Field.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: at Georgia Southern (W, 5-0)
Jadyn Erickson led the Mavericks going 2-3 on the day as she was the lone Mav that came away with a multi-hit game.

Third baseman KJ Murphy knocked her third home run of the year that put the Mavs up 5-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Murphy finished 1-4 with 2 RBI.

Sophie Wideman (1-4), Morgan Rios (1-3, 1 RBI), Meagan Smith (1-3), Jessica Carreon (1-3) and Reagan Hukill (1-3, 1 RBI) all contributed to UTA's total of 8 hits.

Freshman pitcher Jessica Adams recorded her 12th complete game of the year with the 5-0 victory over the Eagles. The right-hander faced 25 batters as she limited Georgia Southern's offense to just 3 hits.

Adams now sits on a record of 11-11 this season.

PLAY BY PLAY: at Georgia Southern (W, 5-0)
  • In the bottom of the first, UTA grabbed a 1-0 lead as Rios knocked in Erickson with an RBI-double to right field.
  • The Mavericks' bats exploded in the bottom of the sixth inning as Reagan Hukill extended UTA's lead to 3-0 courtesy of an RBI-double to left field. The Mavs didn't stop there as KJ Murphy launched her third home run of the season as UTA jumped to a 5-0 lead.

UTA will open Saturday play with a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 a.m. against the Georgia Southern Eagles as the Mavericks look to clinch the three-game conference series.
