San Diego State's Gipson Inks with Lady Mavs

ARLINGTON – UT Arlington women's basketball head coach Shereka Wright has announced the addition of San Diego State transfer and former A.C. Jones standout Kamaria Gipson. Gipson spent two seasons with the Aztecs and will be eligible to play immediately.

"We are so excited to add Kamaria to our Lady Mav Family," said Wright. "She adds elite size to our front court and her competitiveness will fit right into the culture we've built at UTA. She is looking forward to getting on campus and beginning the ground work for another championship season in Arlington."

Gipson played in 51 games for the Aztecs in her two seasons, earning 30 starts. She averaged 3.1 points per game in her career to go with 3.9 rebounds per contest.

A product of A.C. Jones High School in Beeville, Texas, Gipson averaged 22.5 points, 15.2 rebounds and 5.7 blocks per game as a senior and scored the 32nd most points in high school history with 2,655 in her career.

The Lady Mavs come off a 20-8 record and the Sun Belt Tournament Championship in their final year of the conference. That earned the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament for the third time in school history and the first since 2007. UTA sets its sights on the WAC beginning this season.

Gipson joins a class of five newcomers announced last November as well as transfer Kayla White last week.. Click here to read more about the recruiting class announced earlier this season as well as Kayla White.
