ARLINGTON – The UT Arlington women's tennis team (17-2) suffered their second loss of the season to Georgia State on Sunday, losing 2-4. They currently stand in second place in the Sun Belt Conference with a record of 6-1.
The Mavericks went down early after losing the doubles point in a tight match.
Ana Paula Jimenez and
Liz Chileno started off strong and won their match 6-2 on Court 2. However, the Panthers recovered and took the next match 6-3 against
Sarina Reinertsen and
Carla Pons on Court 3.
With one doubles win for each team, it came down to
Momoka Horiguchi and
Tara Gorinsek on Court 1 to clinch the point for the Mavericks. After going back and forth throughout the match, they ultimately fell 6-7 with a tiebreaker score of 8-10.
The singles matches were just as close, with UTA taking the lead to go up 2-1 early on.
Sarina Reinertsen continued her undefeated season on Court 5, demolishing her opponent 6-0, 6-0.
Ana Paula Jimenez also pulled out a win on Court 6, defeating Pragnya Kumar 6-2, 6-1.
Georgia State battled back at lines three, two, and one in order to clinch the match.
Carla Pons came up short on Court 3, losing 0-6, 1-6, and
Liz Chileno followed with a tough 5-7, 3-6 loss on Court 2.
Momoka Horiguchi fought hard on Court 1, but in the end was defeated 4-6, 2-6.

The Mavericks will welcome North Texas to the UTA Tennis Center on Wednesday (April 6) at 2 pm.
