ARLINGTON– The UT Arlington women's tennis team turned around after their loss against Georgia State and defeated North Texas 4-3 at their last home match of the season on Wednesday. The team now holds an overall record of 18-2 and is 6-1 in conference play.
The Mavericks started off the match by losing the doubles point to go down 0-1.
Sarina Reinertsen and
Carla Pons fell first on Court 3, losing 3-6.
Momoka Horiguchi and
Tara Gorinsek followed, with a 2-6 loss on Court 1.
With UTA down 0-1, they needed four singles wins to clinch the match.
Carla Pons was the first singles match to finish, losing at line three 3-6, 2-6. However,
Tara Gorinsek made up for the loss with a 6-2, 6-1 win at line four to put the Mavericks on the scoreboard.
Sarina Reinertsen picked up the next win for UTA on Court 5, beating Sophia Hummel 6-1, 6-2 and tying the match 2-2. The Mavericks went down again after
Liz Chileno lost a tough three-set match on Court 1 with a score of 0-6, 6-4, and 3-6.
Ana Paula Jimenez brought the match to a tie with a 7-6, 6-3 win on Court 6. With both teams at three wins, it came down to Court 2 to decide which team would finish victorious.
After losing the first set,
Momoka Horiguchi secured the win for the Mavericks. She made an impressive comeback and defeated Liisa Vehviläinen 4-6, 6-4, and 6-1 at line two and clinched the match.
The Mavericks will travel to Louisiana to take on ULM (Saturday, April 9) at 9 am before heading to Lafayette to take on the Ragin' Cajuns on Sunday at 9 am.
