AUSTIN – The UT Arlington softball team fell to No. 19 Texas in Austin Wednesday night in a 14-4 run-rule loss.
The Mavericks came out hot in their first ups as the squad grabbed an early 2-0 lead over the Longhorns. However, Texas quickly answered back which contributed to the 14-4 defeat.

Senior
Meagan Smith paced the Maverick's offense in Wednesday's midweek matchup against the ranked Longhorns as she went a perfect 3-3 at the plate with 3 RBI.
Smith was responsible for UTA's first two runs after she knocked an RBI-single to right field which brought
KJ Murphy and
Jadyn Erickson around in the first inning.

Courtney Ogle (1-1),
Amber Langston (1-1) and
Jessica Carreon (1-1) joined Smith in UTA's seven total hits.
Freshman
Jessica Adams earned her 17th start in the circle for the Mavs as she went on to throw 2.0 innings after allowing six earned runs. Sophomore
Gracie Bumpurs came in for Adams in the third inning and she faced 15 Longhorns over 1.1 innings.
Left-hander
Morgan Max relived Bumpurs on the mound as she faced just two batters as Texas ended the game in a 14-4 run-rule victory giving Adams her 10th loss of the season.
PLAY BY PLAY: vs. No. 19 Texas (L, 14-4)
- UT Arlington took an early 2-0 lead in their first at-bats as Murphy led things off with a single through the left side that got things started. Erickson followed it up with a walk that place batters on first and second. Senior Smith knocked an RBI-single to right field that scored two.
- Texas answered back to tie things up 2-2 in the bottom of the first and a sacrifice fly and an RBI-single.
- The Longhorns had a breakout second inning as they put together four more runs to extend their lead 6-2.
- Smith reached on a Longhorn error in the top of the third to cut the deficit to 6-3.
- Texas piled on three more runs in the bottom of the third from a solo home run from the bat of Courtney Day and RBIs from McKenzie Parker and Mia Scott. UTA headed into the fourth inning trailing by six.
- UTA scratched one more across in the top of the fourth courtesy of an RBI from Jadyn Erickson to make it a 9-4 ball game.
- The Longhorns piled five runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth that extended their lead 14-4.
- The Mavs were unable to answer back as they fell to the Longhorns 14-4 in five innings.

UTA will hit the road to Atlanta as the squad looks to take on Georgia State for another conference series beginning Friday, April 8.
