Panthers Outlast Mavs in Game Two of Series

ATLANTA – Despite a comeback effort, the UT Arlington softball team dropped game two of the three-game series to Georgia State Saturday afternoon at Bob Heck Softball Complex.

The Mavericks will look at clinching the series Sunday with the final game scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET/ 12:00 p.m. CT. With the 11-5 loss, UTA now sits on an overall record of 16-16 and a Sun Belt record of 7-7.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: at Georgia State (L, 5-11)
UTA put up six hits in the Saturday afternoon contest against the Panthers as shortstop Jadyn Erickson was the lone Mav that recorded a multi-hit game. Along with going 2-3 at the plate, Erickson also notched one RBI.

Catcher Morgan Rios launched her fourth home run of the season – a 3-run home run – in the top of the sixth that cut UTA's deficit to 8-5.

KJ Murphy (1-4), Courtney Ogle (1-3) and Reagan Hukill (1-2) all contributed to the Maverick's offensive performance as Ogle also tabbed an RBI.

Gracie Bumpurs got the start in the circle for the Mavericks as she went on to throw 1.2 innings allowing eight earned runs off six hits before Jessica Adams came in. Freshman Adams spent the most time on the mound with 2.1 innings pitched as the righty limited the Panthers to just one hit.

Left-hander Morgan Max made an appearance in the bottom of the fifth inning as she went on to throw the remainder of the game. Max faced 13 batters in the 2.0 innings pitched while allowing three earned runs off two hits.

The Mavericks were unable to score anymore runs for the remainder of the game as Bumpurs picked up her fifth loss of the season.

PLAY BY PLAY: at Georgia State (L, 5-11)
  • After a scoreless first inning, the Panthers had an 8-run second inning off of four singles, a double and a triple.
  • The Mavericks managed to scratch one across after an RBI-single from the bat of Jadyn Erickson in the top of the third inning to make it 8-1.
