Long Ball Lifts Georgia Southern Over Mavs; Game Two Postponed Due To Weather

STATESBORO, Ga. – The UT Arlington baseball team fell in game one of double header action against Georgia Southern on Friday afternoon 18-9 before storms forced game two to be postponed until Saturday morning (May 21).

UTA finished with five hits, led by Matt Lumsden who finished with two RBI and hit his fourth home run of the season.  Sam Crowell came away with his first career home run.

Georgia Southern would get the game started in the first inning. A one-out home run would be a sign of things to come as the Eagles scored two runs to take the early lead.

UTA would get one back in the second with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Tyler Rice before tying the game with a solo home run in the fifth inning from Sam Crowell.

The Eagles responded in the bottom of the fifth with two solo home runs.

Matt Cavanagh used an RBI double to left center to make it a one-run game, but the Eagles would open the game in the home half of the inning.

Southern would score nine runs in the bottom of the sixth, with seven runs coming from two more Eagle home runs to take a 13-3 lead.

The scoring continued in the seventh as the Eagles hit their sixth home run of the game to score three more runs.

Matt Lumsden connected on his fourth home run of the season in the eighth inning, driving in two runs by sending the ball over the right field wall.

The Eagles would match the two runs in the bottom of the eighth with a two-run home run of their own.

The Mavericks would attempt a valiant rally effort in the ninth inning, scoring four runs off three hits.

GAME TWO | GS 3, UTA 1 (Bottom of the 3rd)
The Mavericks scored first, taking their first lead of the day, in the first inning. Wilson Galvan hit an RBI single to score Oscar Ponce.
