Mavs Drop Final Non-Conference Game to No. 13 Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION – The UT Arlington baseball team fell to No. 13 Texas A&M on Tuesday night at Blue Bell Park to end its non-conference schedule.

Cade Citelli (ND) tossed 4.0 innings in the start, allowing two runs off two hits while striking out three batters. Gray Bailey and Hunter Marshall (L, 0-1) combined to pitch one inning, allowing six runs.  Trevor Pruitt tossed three perfect innings to end the game, striking out five batters.

UTA finished with six hits, led by Boone Montgomery's 2-for-5 night.  Tanner Rice led the Mavericks with two runs batted in, while Matt Cavanagh and Wilson Galvan each contributed one RBI

The Aggies manufactured their runs in the first and second inning. With the first two batters reaching base in both innings, A&M used double steals to putter runners in scoring position. A ground ball scored one run in the first inning, while a sacrifice fly scored a run in the second inning.

Boone Montgomery led off the fourth inning with a double down the left field line, advancing to third base with a wild pitch. Wilson Galvan used a deep sacrifice fly to center field to score Montgomery. A single and walk extended the inning for the Mavericks and loaded the bases for Tanner Rice, who connected on a two-RBI single to put the Mavericks up 3-2.

The Mavericks loaded the bases again in the fifth before Matt Cavanagh was walked to drive in the fourth run for the Mavericks.

The Aggies responded with a three-run bottom of the fifth to regain the lead.

With two bases runners on second and third, a wild pitch from Texas A&M allowed Tanner Rice to score and tie the game in the top of the sixth inning.

Texas A&M answered an inning later, using a pair of two-RBI doubles to score four runs and chase off Marshall. A sacrifice fly would score the fifth run of the inning.

Pruitt would throw the final three innings of the ballgame without allowing an Aggie baserunner, while striking out five batters.

UTA will return to Sun Belt Conference play this weekend (May 6-8) as they travel to Lafayette, Louisiana to take on the Ragin' Cajuns beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday.
