ARLINGTON – UT Arlington head men's basketball coach
Greg Young completed his 2022-23 signing class with the addition of talented guard Marion Humphrey from Salt Lake Community College following two seasons at Division-I San Diego.
Â
The 6-3 Humphrey is coming off a redshirt sophomore season at Salt Lake CC in which he helped lead the Bruins to the National Junior College National Championship Game, averaging 8.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 37 games. Considered one of the best defenders in junior college, Humphrey also registered 52 steals during the year.
Â
In 2019-20 at West Coast Conference member San Diego, Humphrey was the Toreros starting point guard as a freshman, leading the team in steals with 40 and averaging 6.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists while playing in all 32 games and making 29 starts. The Hoover, Ala., native became the first San Diego freshman to have 200+ points, 100+ rebounds and 80+ assists in a single season since 1992-93.
Â
During San Diego's COVID-impacted 2020-21 season in which the Toreros only played 14 games, Humphrey appeared in 13 contests, highlighted by a 10-point, three-assist effort at No. 1 Gonzaga. In his two years with San Diego, Humphrey played in 45 games, totaling 265 points (5.9 per game), 127 rebounds (2.8) 101 assists (2.2) and 53 steals (1.2).
Â
"We are very excited to finish our recruiting class with Marion Humphrey," stated Young. Marion joins us from Salt Lake CC coached by Kyle Taylor. SLCC spent most of the season ranked No. 1 in the nation, and to have a winner like Marion join us is exciting. Marion is an athletic guard who can play and defend multiple positions at a very high level. He also has two years of D-I experience to help add veteran leadership to our team this season."
