Men’s Basketball WAC Schedule Revealed

ARLINGTON – Western Athletic Conference officials released the UT Arlington men's basketball team's league dates on Wednesday for the 2022-23 season.

The Mavericks home and away conference opponents had previously been announced, but now they are slotted into the following docket:
  • Thursday, Dec. 29: @ Tarleton
  • Saturday, Dec. 31: Stephen F. Austin
  • Thursday, Jan. 5: Utah Valley
  • Saturday, Jan. 7: Seattle
  • Thursday, Jan. 12: @ Grand Canyon
  • Saturday, Jan. 14: @ New Mexico State
  • Thursday, Jan. 19: UT Rio Grande Valley
  • Saturday, Jan. 21: @ Abilene Christian
  • Wednesday, Jan. 25: California Baptist
  • Wednesday, Feb. 1: Tarleton
  • Saturday, Feb. 4: Sam Houston
  • Thursday, Feb. 9: @ UT Rio Grande Valley
  • Thursday, Feb. 16: @ Sam Houston
  • Saturday, Feb. 18: @ Stephen F. Austin
  • Thursday, Feb. 23: Southern Utah
  • Saturday, Feb. 25: Utah Tech
  • Wednesday, Mar. 1: @ Utah Valley
  • Friday, Mar. 3: @ Seattle
The 18-game slate is comprised of 12 contests with six teams both home and away, three matchups with three schools just at home and three more with three opponents only on the road.

After playing seven of its first 11 WAC games at home, UTA will close the campaign with five of its final seven on the road.

It all leads into the WAC Tournament the week of Mar. 6-11 in Las Vegas where 12 of the league's 13 teams will advance to play the first two rounds at Michelob ULTRA Arena on Mar. 6-7 before the final three rounds Mar. 8-11 at Orleans Arena.

As announced earlier this summer, the WAC has implemented a resume seeding system to determine how those teams are seeded at the tournament. An algorithm will rate performance against all teams faced in the regular season, not just conference play.

Using this resume seeding system, teams will receive more credit by playing stronger opponents than weaker opponents, and, for example, beating a highly ranked team on the road carries more weight than beating that same team at home.

The goal is to put the WAC into position to earn higher NCAA Tournament seeds and more at-large consideration. This concept was approved by the WAC Athletic Directors and Board of Directors. To read more about it, click here.

Several of UTA's non-conference matchups have already been announced, but the full schedule will be revealed in the coming days. Highlights include home contests versus Nevada and North Texas, a renewal of the Texas State rivalry at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, participating in the Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Fla., and road trips to Oklahoma State, LSU, Cal and San Francisco.

Starting as low as $99, season tickets for the 2022-23 campaign are also now on sale by visiting UTATickets.com, emailing boxoffice@uta.edu or calling 817-272-9595.
