ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.-- The UT Arlington men's tennis team is set to kick off their 2023 spring season with matches against New Mexico and Gonzaga in the Jack Kennedy Classic at the McKinnon Family Tennis Center. The team is scheduled to play the Lobos at 3 p.m. on Friday before facing the Zags at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
The Mavericks are looking to improve their singles records this weekend after the Fall season.
Anton Shepp is coming off of the Fall season with a 5-5 singles record.
Solano Caffarena also finished with a tied 4-4 singles record in the Fall.
Shepp ended the Fall season with a winning 5-3 doubles record, along with
Santiago Giamichelle who finished 3-2 in doubles.
SCOUTING NEW MEXICO
The Lobos will play their first dual match of the spring season against the Mavs on Friday. The Mavericks are currently 0-1 against UNM after their last meeting in 1991.
SCOUTING GONZAGA
Gonzaga started their season with a duel match on Wednesday and swept Eastern Washington 7-0. This will be the first meeting between the Zags and the Mavericks.
ON DECK
The Mavs will have their home opener next Sunday, Jan. 29, with a doubleheader against Prairie View A&M (10 am) and Southeastern Oklahoma State (2 pm).
