ARLINGTON, Texas– The UT Arlington women's tennis team (2-0) made their season debut at the UTA Tennis Center, sweeping Dallas Baptist (4-0) and Prairie View A&M (7-0) on Saturday.
 
The Mavericks started off strong against the Patriots by taking the doubles point. Tara Gorinsek and Ana Paula Jimenez were the first team off the court with a 6-1 win at the No. 1 spot. Liz Chileno and Sarina Reinertsen were the next to pick up a win, defeating Jenna Payne and Madison Stafford 6-3 at No. 2.
 
Gorinsek also had a strong showing in singles action, earning her first win of the spring season on Court 3. She defeated Stafford 6-0, 6-1 to help the Mavs go up 2-0.
 
Bruna Casasampere was the next to finish her match with a strong 6-1, 6-2 win over Sofia Teran on Court 4.
 
Chileno followed with another two set win on Court 1 in order to clinch the match for the Mavericks, defeating Caroline Hudson 6-2, 6-2.
 
The Mavericks followed up their morning win with another sweep over Prairie View in the afternoon.
 
In doubles action, the Mavs continued their success by taking the 1-0 lead early in the match.
 
Casasampere and Francisca Vergara were the first team to finish with a 6-2 win on Court 3. Chileno and Reinertsen were soon to follow, beating Gabrielle Leslie and Aleyla Wooten 6-1 on Court 2.
 
Singles followed in a similar fashion, with the Mavericks winning all six matches.
 
Ioana Dumitrescu made her first appearance of the season on Court 6 with a strong 6-0, 6-3 win over Salma Sanchez Villalobos. On Court 3, Gorinsek won her second match of the day 6-1, 6-1 for the Mavs to go up 3-0 in the match.
 
To secure the win for the Mavericks, Jimenez earned a 6-1, 6-0 win on Court 4 over Mahogani Green. Vergara finished soon after, winning 6-2, 6-2 on Court 5.
 
In an exciting tiebreaker on Court 2, Reinertsen earned the sixth singles win for the Mavericks. After being down 5-2, she brought the score back to 5-4 but dropped the first set 6-4. She dominated in the second set, winning 6-1, and followed it up with a strong third-set tiebreak score of 10-6.
 
Chileno also forced a third set on Court 1 and defeated Leslie Gabrielle to complete the sweep. After dropping the first set 0-6, she came back to take the next two 6-1 and 6-2 to win her second singles match of the day.
 
The Mavericks will be back in action Friday for another double header against Weatherford College (10 a.m.) and Arkansas State (2 p.m.) at the UTA Tennis Center.
