ARLINGTON, Texas– The UT Arlington men's tennis team (2-2)  defeated Prairie View A&M 6-1 and Southeastern Oklahoma 4-1 in their home opener at the UTA Tennis Center on Sunday.
 
The Mavericks dominated in doubles play for the early 1-0 lead against the Panthers. Daichi Akiyoshi and Lachlan Robertson finished first with a strong 6-0 win on Court 3. Santiago Giamichelle and Anton Shepp were soon to follow, defeating Diego Hatem and Jorge Juarez Caballero 6-4 on Court 1.
 
Daichi Akiyoshi was quick to complement the doubles success, winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. Joan Torres Espinosa also won his match handily, defeating Caleb Eaton 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4.
 
On Court 3, Giamichelle earned a 6-0, 6-1 win to help the Mavs go up 4-0 and secure the match. Dante Teramo followed, winning 6-1, 6-1 over Jadyn Boone on Court 5. Shepp was next with a 6-0, 6-3 win on Court 2.
 
Solano Caffarena lost to Juarez Caballero in a tough battle on Court 1. His final score was 6-4, 6-4.
 
The Mavericks continued to triumph in the afternoon with a 4-1 win over Southeastern Oklahoma. After dropping the doubles point, the Mavs were able to pick up four singles wins to secure the match.
 
Shepp and Giamichelle lost 6-3 on Court 1 to Stipan Madzar and Thabo Ncube. Akiyoshi and Robertson dropped the next match with a tight 7-5 loss on Court 3.
 
The Mavericks bounced back quickly with strong singles play to end the match. Shepp continued his success, picking up another 6-0, 6-3 win on Court 1. Teramo followed with a win on Court 5, 6-2, 6-2.
 
Giamichelle earned his second win of the day on Court 3, 6-1, 6-2. Torres Espinosa clinched the match for the Mavs soon after, defeating Marin Jurkovic 6-4, 6-3 on Court 4.
 
The Mavericks will be back in action on Feb. 3-4 in the Lafayette Tournament at the University of Louisiana. Their next home match will be Feb. 10 against UT San Antonio at the UTA Tennis Center.
