ARLINGTON, Texas– The UT Arlington men's tennis team (2-3) suffered a tough 4-3 loss to UTSA Saturday after battling back from being down 1-0.
 
In doubles action, the Roadrunners went up after winning on Court 3, defeating Santiago Giamichelle and Dante Teramo 6-3. The Mavericks bounced back to take the next match on Court 1 after Anton Shepp and Solano Caffarena beat Tomas Pinho and Tiago Torres 6-2. The deciding match came down to Court 1, with Joan Torres Espinosa and Lachlan Robertson falling 6-3.
 
The Mavericks fought back to tie the score in singles, but could not overcome the Roadrunners. Robertson dominated on Court 6, winning in straight sets 6-2, 7-6. Shepp was next to pull out a win in a tight, three-set match on Court 1. He defeated Torres 6-1, 2-6, 6-2.
 
Torres Espinosa made a comeback on Court 4 to tie the match up for the Mavericks. After dropping a tight 6-4 set for the first, he came back to win the second set 6-4. He proceeded to take care of business in the third, giving up only one game with a score of 6-1.
 
With the match tied, UTA could not overcome UTSA in the end. Teramo fell 7-6, 6-3 on Court 5 to Pinho, with Caffarena soon to follow on Court 3, 7-5, 7-6.
 
Giamichelle battled in a tough match on Court 2, barely losing in the third set. He lost to Alan Magadan 2-6, 7-6, 6-4.
 
The Mavericks will be back in action at the UTA Tennis Center on Feb. 18 against Cameron.
