ARLINGTON, Texas – After a break from action last weekend, the UT Arlington cross country teams will have their final warm-up before the WAC Championships as they compete at the Arturo Barrios Invitational on Friday, October 13, at the Dale Watts Cross Country Course hosted by Texas A&M.
The gun sounds off at 8:30 a.m. for the men's 8k race, followed by the women's 6k race at 9:15 a.m.
In their last meet, UTA saw their best finish ever on the women's side, coming in fourth place out of 35 teams, at the massive Chile Pepper Festival at the University of Arkansas. Newcomer
Matro Jepkemboi led the way for the Mavericks, placing sixth overall with a collegiate best time of 17:03.30. This was Jepkemboi's third top-10 finish in three races she's competed in this season. The women had no one finish over the 200 mark out of 300 plus competitors.
The Lady Mavs are currently ranked seventh in the South Central Region Poll by USTFCCCA. After not being ranked in the preseason poll, the Lady Mavs jumped into the rankings to seventh after the first week and have remained locked in at seventh through weeks two and three.
On the men's side, UTA fell out of the South Central Region rankings for the first time all season after battling through injuries and some illnesses' at the Chile Pepper Festival where they finished 20th overall.
Patrick Estes led the way for the second race in a row for the Mavs, finishing 61st overall with a time of 25:32.00.
Along with the host Texas A&M, there will be 40 other teams competing alongside UTA, including Arkansas State, Baylor, Boston College, Connecticut, Eastern Michigan, Georgia Tech, Houston, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, Indiana, Kennesaw State, Lamar, Louisiana, Louisville, LSU, Marshall, McNeese State, New Mexico State, Nicholls State, North Texas, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Rice, SMU, South Dakota State, Stephen F. Austin, TAMU Corpus Christi, TAMU Texarkana, TCU, Texas State, Texas Tech, Toledo, Tulane, UCF, UCLA, Utah Valley, UTEP, UTRGV, UTSA and Youngstown State.
