ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington women's basketball team (0-2) was defeated 74-57 by Lamar (2-0) inside the College Park Center on Friday afternoon as Sabria Dean exploded for 30 points for the Cardinals to spoil the Mavericks homecoming festivities.
A slow start in the first two quarters of play put the Lady Mavs in a hole that was to deep to climb out of, going into halftime down by a score of 39-20.
UTA did not go down without a fight, coming out the half and winning the third quarter, outscoring the Cardinals 21-14 in the third. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Mavs cut the Lamar lead down to 10, 55-45, with 8:18 left in the game but could get no closer.
The Lady Mavs had three players register double figures in scoring.
Adela Valkova had a career night on the offensive end, dropping 15 points and making five free throws in the losing effort. Valkova also blocked three shots, a new career high for the fifth year from the Czech Republic. She also tied her career high with five rebounds.
Senior forward
Avery Brittingham was the steady anchor for the Lady Mavs, logging her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds in 34 minutes of action. Brittingham also dished out three assists and was a defensive presence for the Lady Mavs, blocking two shots and getting two steals.
Gia Adams had her best performance in a UTA uniform, finishing with 12 points to go along with two assists and two steals.
Masengo Mutanda and
Kali Haizlip also had their best performances of the young season, with Mutanda scoring seven points and Haizlip scoring six points off the bench, respectfully.
Across the board, the two teams were evenly matched besides for Lamar shooting 38.5 percent from downtown compared to the Lady Mavs 15.4 percent from beyond the arc. This was a vastly different story compared from Monday's game at South Florida where UTA shot 50 percent from the three-point line.

The Lady Mavs will be on the road again, as they travel down I-35 to Austin to take on the 13th ranked Longhorns of Texas on Tuesday, November 14. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
