ARLINGTON – The UT Arlington softball team wrapped up opening weekend going 3-1 in Maverick Invitational play with a 3-0 victory over Tulsa Sunday at Allan Saxe Field.
The Mavericks' 3-1 start proved to be the best season-opening performance for the program since 2018.
Overall, infielder
Kimber Cortemelia paced UTA's offense going 6-13 (.462) at the plate with four RBI. The fifth year started in all four games for the Mavs and continues to prove to be a key asset in UTA's lineup.
Nicole Hill recorded her first career start in right field in Friday's game against the Red Raiders where head coach
Kara Dill kept the lefty in the lineup for UTA's final two games of the weekend. The sophomore went on to tab her first hit(s) in a Maverick uniform after she compiled a weekend average of .375 finishing 3-8 at the plate.

UTA's offense was led by Hill as the lefty went a perfect 3-3 at the plate with one RBI.
Jadyn Erickson and
Zaia Castruita also came away with a multi-hit game after logging two hits apiece contributing to the Mavericks' 11 hits.
Fifth year Cortemelia recorded her sixth hit of the weekend in Sunday's contest against Tulsa that aided the Mavs to the 3-0 victory.
In the circle, sophomore Adams turned in her first complete game of the 2023 season after the righty kept the Golden Hurricane completely off the board. That proved to be her second win of the year.
PLAY BY PLAY: vs. Tulsa (W, 3-0)
- Through three scoreless innings, the Mavericks' scored first in the bottom of the fourth inning with an RBI-single from the bat of Hill that went on to plate pinch runner Paris Brienesse from second. UTA didn't stop there as Cortemelia launched a double off the left field wall that scored one more to extend its lead to 2-0.
- In the bottom of the sixth, senior Reagan Hukill led off with a single through the left side before Hill and Erickson tabbed back-to-back singles that loaded the bases up. Castruita reached on a fielder's choice which scored Hukill from third that put the Mavs up 3-0.
- Adams kept the Golden Hurricane's bats quiet, giving her a second win of the year.
ON DECK
The Mavericks will be back in action in Celina, Texas to compete in North Texas' Tracy Beard Tournament where the squad will face Kentucky, Sam Houston, South Dakota, McNeese and host, North Texas.
