FORT WORTH, Texas – The UT Arlington baseball team falls on the road to the 8th ranked TCU Horned Frogs by a final score 7-3.
The Mavericks used 5 pitchers on the night with
Brayden Brooks getting the start on the mound, going 3.2 innings giving up 4 runs, 3 of them earned, on 5 hits to take the loss. Brooks on 18 pitches walked 1 and struck out 3 to end the 1st before running into trouble in the 2nd with TCU scoring on a solo homerun and a single which drove in an unearned run to go up 2-0. TCU would go on to score 2 more runs in the 4th which ended Brooks' night, finishing with 5 punchouts and 2 walks.
Matt Novis,
Gray Bailey,
Colby Diduch and
Zach Norris would round out the pitching for UTA. Novis went 1.2 innings giving up 2 runs on 2 hits, striking out 3 and walking 2. Bailey went 0.2 innings giving up no runs and no hits. Diduch went 1 inning giving up 1 run on 2 hits, striking out 2 and walking 1. Norris finished the game, going 1 inning giving up 2 hits and surrendering no runs.
Offensively, the Mavs scored 3 runs on 8 hits. The Mavs got on the board in the 3rd inning with a base hit by
Steven Saunders to advance runners to 2nd and 3rd, and an error by the second baseman advanced those runners, scoring 1. Saunders finished the game with 2 of the Mavs 8 hits.
TCU transfer
Garrison Berkley in his return to Lupton Stadium drove in 1 run on a single to left field to tie the game in the in the 4th inning.
Tyson Pointer finished with 1 hit, a triple, and 1 RBI. Rounding out the offense for UTA was
Matt Cavanagh who finished with 2 hits and scored a run.
Ben Lumsden and
Ryan Black each had 1 hit, with Lumsden scoring a run.
UTA stranded 10 runners on the base paths.
NEXT UP
The Mavericks welcome McNeese to Arlington for the first series at Clay Gould Ballpark of the 2023 campaign. First game is on Friday, Feb. 24, with a 6:30 pm start time. Game 2 on Saturday, Feb. 25, is slated for a 2 pm start. First pitch for game 3 on Sunday, Feb. 26, is scheduled for 1 pm.
