Offense Explodes For The Mavs As They Earn The Series Victory Over Tarleton

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The UT Arlington Mavericks (7-7, 2-0 WAC) clinched the series win with a 12-8 victory over Tarleton (10-5, 0-2 WAC) at Tarleton Baseball Complex.

The Maverick offense plated 8 runs in the final three innings which was key to the victory. Going into the seventh trailing by 2, UTA scored 3 to take a 7-6 lead. Tarleton responded by scoring 1 in the bottom of the inning to tie it up at 7 runs apiece.

The Mavs would score 3 more runs in the top of the eighth to take the lead and never surrendered it, plating 2 more insurance runs in the top of the ninth to effectively put the game out of reach for the Texans.

The Maverick offense had 5 players each drive in 2 runs on the afternoon.

Tyson Pointer remained hot, extending his hitting streak to 14 games, going 3-5 on the game. Pointer started off the game with a no doubt homerun to right center on the first pitch he seen in the top of the first. He also hit 2 doubles on the afternoon, which now gives him a team high 8 on the season.

Garrison Berkley went 3-5 at the plate with 2 doubles himself and driving in 2 runs. His big 2 run double in the top of the seventh to tie the game provided the spark the Mavs offense needed, as they would score 6 more runs to follow.

Wilson Galvan got the start in left field this afternoon, and went 2-4 at the plate, driving in 2 runs. Finished the scoring in the top of the seventh, driving in the go ahead run, before Tarleton tied it up in the bottom of the inning.

Ryan Black continued his torrid streak to his college career, going 2-4 at the plate with a big 2 run double in the top of the eighth that gave the Mavs the lead that they never relinquished.

Tyler Rice went 2-2, drawing a walk and getting hit by a pitch. Hit a big 2 run homerun in the top of the ninth to give the Mavs some added insurance runs.

Sam Crowell came in off the bench and got 4 at bats, collecting 2 hits and driving in 1 run while scoring 1 run.

UTA used 4 pitchers on the afternoon, with Brayden Brooks getting the start on the mound. Brooks went 3 innings and gave up 4 runs, 3 earned, on 6 hits and striking out 1. Joe Steeber came in relief for Brooks and went 1 inning, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits and striking out 2. Matt Novis went 2.1 innings, giving up 1 run on 4 hits and striking out 3.
