ARLINGTON, Texas– The UTA men's tennis team (8-5) are set to travel to Wichita, Kansas to face Wichita State at 1 p.m. Thursday.
The Mavericks are coming off a 5-1 win over Furman at the UTA Tennis Center. They are looking to pick up their first win on the road Thursday.
Anton Shepp holds the most wins on the team as the primary No. 1 player at 9-3. After a tough loss to Jerry Barton from Furman, he is looking to rebound against the Shockers.
Four freshmen have been key to the Mavs' success.
Joan Torres Espinosa has the second most wins on the team, with an 8-4 record.
Santiago Giamichelle and
Lachlan Robertson both hold 7-3 records.
Dante Teramo holds a 7-4 record, with wins on Courts 4, 5 and 6.
Shepp and
Solano Caffarena have been dominant in doubles play, with the pair holding a 7-2 record for the season. They defeated Furman in a tiebreaker, as well as No. 27 ranked Texas A&M 6-1.
SCOUTING WICHITA STATE
Wichita State is 9-8 in the spring season. Their only win over a ranked opponent has been over No. 47 Nebraska. The Mavs hold a 6-14 head-to-head record with the Shockers. Their last win was in 2017.
