STEPHENVILLE, Texas– The UT Arlington women's tennis team (10-2, 2-0 WAC) defeated their second conference opponent in their Sunday match. They defeated Tarleton State 6-1 at the Potishman-Lard Tennis Courts to earn their tenth win of the season.
The Mavericks started off strong after earning the doubles point for an early advantage.
Liz Chileno and
Sarina Reinertsen were the first team off court, defeating Elsa Boisson and Emma Persson to move to 7-3 on the season. After starting at one game apiece, Jimenez and Reinertsen were able to cruise through the match to earn the 6-1 victory on Court 2.
The next victory on Court 1 clinched the 1-0 lead for the Mavs heading into singles.
Tara Gorinsek and
Ana Paula Jimenez took care of business, taking down Martha Makantasi and Clara Sobius 6-2. They hold a 7-4 record for the season.
Bruna Casasampere and
Francisca Vergara fell in a tough match on Court 3 to Elif Albayrak and Ximena Morales. After being within one game for the duration of the match, Albayrak and Morales were too much for the Mavs to overcome, dropping the set 6-4.
The Mavericks carried the momentum from the doubles point win into singles play, dropping only one match to the Texans.
Vergara finished first on Court 6, coming back from her doubles loss to win in straight sets. After going up 4-1, she finished off the first set with a 6-1 victory over Sobius. The second set ended in a similar fashion, with Vergara winning 6-1 to put the Mavs up 2-0.
Reinertsen followed, moving to 7-2 on the season after a straight-set victory over Boisson on Court 3. Reinertsen dominated in the first set, allowing Boisson only one game to win 6-1. She finished off the second set just as quickly, earning another 6-1 for the match.
The Texans earned one point on Court 1 after Persson defeated Chileno in two sets. Chileno faced a one game deficit throughout both sets, but Persson was too much to overcome, winning the match 6-3, 6-4.
Jimenez retaliated on Court 5, clinching the match for the Mavs with a victory over Albayrak. She took the first set handily, winning 6-1 to take the lead. The second set went back and forth up until 5-5. Jimenez was too much for Albayrak to overcome, pulling the set out 7-5. She moved to 8-1 on the season.
Gorinsek followed, taking her match on Court 2 in the deciding set to add another point. She took the first set handily over Makantasi, winning 6-1. Makantasi retaliated in the second set, pulling out a close 6-4 win. The third set was tight, going back and forth between the Mavs and the Texans. Gorinsek pulled out the set 7-5 for the victory.
Casasampere ended the day on a high note, earning the third set victory over Morales on Court 4. After dropping the first set 6-2, Casasampere fought back to take a close second set 7-5. Casasampere finished off the match in a dominant fashion, following the second set with a 6-3 win.
The Mavericks will be back in action on Friday to face New Mexico State at the UTA Tennis Center at 1 p.m.
