Mavs Bounce Back At Suspended ECU Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The UT Arlington men's golf team posted a 16-shot improvement from the 1st round to its 2nd round on Monday as the Mavericks currently sit in a tie for 11th place at the suspended ECU Intercollegiate from Brook Valley Country Club.

Play was suspended due to darkness with still eight teams on the course having not yet completed their 2nd rounds. Play is scheduled to resume at 8 a.m. CT on Tuesday (9 a.m. local Eastern).

UTA opened the day with a 311 in its first trek around the 6,830-yard layout, but rebounded incredibly well with a 295 in the 2nd round. The 311 was by far the Mavs' worst score of the season, and just the second time this year they have shot over 300.

The Mavs are currently tied with Marshall at +30 (606) overall, but with all 16 teams in the field double digits over par for the tournament, UTA could likely move up the leaderboard before its final round tees off on Tuesday as all eight teams who still need to complete the 2nd round are ahead of the Mavs. Host East Carolina is leading that pack at +11.

INSIDE THE SCORES
MIYA
The New Zealand native could not quite get anything rolling as he managed just three birdies all day. After signing for his first 80 of the season over his opening 18 holes, Miya played the first four holes of the 2nd round in +4 but was able to hold it together and post a 5-over 77.

CRONJE
The South African tied his season worst for a round with a final score of 78 in round one, but bounced back in round two with a respectable 74. Cronje, living up to his consistent play, was the only Maverick to not card a double or worse in either round.

HICKS
Hicks began his morning with a birdie on the first hole of the day, but after that a string of bogeys derailed the round and finished with a 79. His 2nd round was much cleaner as he delivered three birdies and three bogeys to sign for a level-par 72.

JONES
The senior also could not get anything rolling in the 1st round as he posted his 2nd-worst round of the year with an 80. Jones was able to turn around his performance with a 2nd-round score of 72 propelled by back-to-back birdies on holes 6 and 7 and three in the opening seven holes.

BECK
The freshman impressed in his opening round, leading the Mavs with a season-best 74 as he carded nothing higher than a bogey and rolled in four birdies. However, a double bogey on his opening hole to the 2nd round unfortunately set the tone for the afternoon en route to the 83.

GRIESSEL (Individual)
The Redmond, Wash., native registered an outstanding performance as an individual in the 1st round with a 73 which included nothing higher than a 5 and featured three birdies. However, he struggled to maintain that consistency with a 2nd-round 82.
