ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team (13-18, 3-5) split Friday's doubleheader against the Utah Tech Trailblazers at Allan Saxe Field.
UTA took UTU into extra innings in the first game Saturday as the Mavs came out on top, taking game one of the series 4-3.

The Mavericks pieced together 11 hits in Friday's first game as
Alaina Hampton (3-4),
Morgan Westbrook (2-5, 3 RBI),
Reagan Hukill (1-4),
Marley Neises (1-3),
Meagan Smith (1-4, 1 RBI),
Sophie Wideman (1-4),
Kimber Cortemelia (1-3) and
Zaia Castruita (1-4) all came away with one hit each.
UTA relied solely off the arm of sophomore
Jessica Adams who tossed 10 innings, allowing two earned runs off nine hits. Adams was credited the win as the Mavs went on to defeat the Trailblazers 4-3.
PLAY BY PLAY: vs Utah Tech (W, 4-3) 10 Innings
- The Mavericks piled on three runs in their first at-bats courtesy of a two-run shot from Westbrook and a solo bomb from Smith.
- After four-straight scoreless innings, Utah Tech tied things up in the top of the sixth with an RBI-single, groundout and a sacrifice fly to right field.
- The Mavericks took the Trailblazers into extra innings as Westbrook was the one responsible for the game-winning RBI-single through the left side that scored Hampton from third base, coming away with a 4-3 win in 10 innings.

Hukill went 2-2 at the plate, contributing to the Mavericks' five-hit total. Neises (1-3, 1 RBI), Smith (1-2) and
Ashleigh Sgambelluri (1-1) were the ones responsible.
Junior
Gracie Bumpurs started game two against UTU as she threw a complete game. Unfortunately, the Mavericks' offense couldn't rally, falling to the Trailblazers 17-1.
PLAY BY PLAY: vs Utah Tech (L, 17-1) 5 Innings
- Utah Tech scored first in the top of the third as the Trailblazers capitalized off a UTA error and a three-run home run from the bat of Lauren Almeida, putting UTU up 4-0. Shortly after, UTU launched its second home run of the inning, extending its lead to 6-0.
- In the top of the fourth, Utah Tech knocked back-to-back doubles which made it a 7-0 game before adding on four more runs off an RBI-single and three-run home run, putting UTU up 11-0.
- UTU went on to score six additional runs in the top of the fifth as UTA was unable to fight back, falling 17-0 to the Trailblazers.
- The Mavericks were able to plate one run in the bottom of the fifth as Neises was responsible with an RBI-single to left field.
ON DECK
UTA will take a break from midweek action as the team will travel to Stephen F. Austin for a three-game conference series beginning Friday, Apr. 7 through Saturday, Apr. 8 in Nacogdoches, Texas.
