NATCHITOCHES, La. – The UT Arlington baseball team fell to the Northwestern State Demons 11-10 at Brown-Stroud Field this afternoon.
UTA finished the game with 10 hits and plating 10 runs. It was a career night for freshman
Ryan Black, getting his first start at second base and smashing the first home run of his career while tying his career high with 2 runs driven in.
Matt Cavanagh and Black finished with a team high 2 base hits on the afternoon.
Ben Lumsden finished with 1 hit, but it was a big 2-run homerun to tie the game in the top of the ninth. It's the 2nd homerun of Lumsden's career. He now has 2 of the Mavs 4 homeruns on the year.
Tyson Pointer, Lumsden and Black finished with 2 RBIs apiece to lead the Mavs offensively.
Garrison Berkley and Cavanagh finished with 1 RBI apiece for the Mavs.
The Mavericks jumped on the Demons pitching staff early, scoring 3 runs in the top of the first inning thanks to a 2 RBI single by Pointer and Berkley driving in Pointer with a double to left field. The Mavs would add another run in the top of the third on Black's homerun to right center field to take a 4-1 lead.
NSU would score 5 runs in the bottom of the third and add 2 more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take an 8-4 lead. The Mavs tied the game in the top of the seventh by putting up a 4 spot before the Demons would answer in the bottom of the inning by plating 2 runs to take a 10-8 lead.
It was an exciting ninth inning as Lumsden would tie the game with a 2-run bomb to right field to fire up the Mavs dugout. The Demons second baseman led off the bottom of the inning and hit a homerun to left field for the walk-off win.
UTA looks to win the series tomorrow with game time scheduled for 1 pm at Brown-Stroud Field.
