ARLINGTON, Texas– The UT Arlington men's tennis team (12-7, 3-0 WAC) is set to take on their final regular season opponents Grand Canyon and Seattle U on the road. They will face the Lopes at 3 p.m. Friday at the GCU Tennis Facility and the Redhawks on Sunday at the Amy Yee Tennis Courts. The time for Seattle U's match has not been announced.
The Mavericks look to remain undefeated in WAC play. They have defeated Abilene Christian, UT Rio Grande Valley and New Mexico State to earn the No. 1 spot in the WAC standings.
Doubles pair
Anton Shepp and
Solano Caffarena are heading into the match as WAC Doubles Team of the Week. The duo holds an 11-3 overall record on the season and is 3-0 in WAC play. They are on a four match winning streak, which started with a strong win over No. 34 Oklahoma.
Caffarena has been solid on Court 3 for the Mavericks, holding a 3-0 record in WAC play. He has not dropped a set to his conference opponents, moving to an 8-7 overall record for the season.
Santiago Giamichelle earned his tenth win of the season over NMSU's Corey Clarke in his Court 1 debut. He also has yet to drop a set in WAC play, earning three wins in straight sets to remain undefeated against conference opponents.
Shepp moved to 12-6 in singles play after a straight set win over NMSU. He only dropped three games to Jordy Visser, and remains 2-1 in WAC matches.
Lachlan Robertson also earned his twelfth win of the season in a close tiebreaker over the Aggies. He is undefeated in WAC play and holds a 12-4 overall record for the Mavs on Court 4.
Dante Teramo has been solid on Courts 5 and 6 for the Mavericks, also holding an undefeated WAC record. He defeated NMSU's Luca Fe D'Ostiani in a deciding set to move to 11-4 on the season.
SCOUTING GRAND CANYON
The Lopes hold a 5-11 overall record and are 1-2 in conference play. They have defeated Seattle U and lost to New Mexico State and Abilene Christian. This will be the third meeting between the Mavericks and the Lopes, with the record tied at 1-1. In their last matchup in 2018, the Lopes defeated the Mavs 4-1.
SCOUTING SEATTLE U
The Redhawks are 5-2 overall on the season and are 1-2 in conference play. They have defeated conference opponent New Mexico State and lost to Grand Canyon and Abilene Christian. The Mavericks hold a 1-0 record over the Redhawks after their last meeting in 2013.
