Cody San Miguel Named Men’s Basketball Director of Operations & Recruiting

ARLINGTON – A Texas native with operational and coaching experience in the Lone Star State, Cody San Miguel has been tabbed as the UT Arlington men's basketball team's Director of Operations & Recruiting by head coach KT Turner.

San Miguel, 35, will start his operational role with the Mavericks immediately, and beginning on July 1 will also be able to engage in coaching activities. In January, the NCAA Division I Council voted to approve an increase of two (2) basketball coaches who can participate in skill instruction, but may not recruit off campus.

A native of Austin, San Miguel joins UTA following two seasons as an assistant coach at Division-II Central Missouri. Prior to that, he spent the 2020-21 campaign with Texas as the Longhorns' Coordinator of Video and Operations.

"Cody is a high-energy guy who is extremely organized and detail-oriented," stated Turner of his newest staff member. "Having someone as experienced as Cody in this role is a tremendous benefit for our program. He has a background in not only operations, but just as importantly as a coach, recruiter and skill-developer."

While with Texas, San Miguel was part of a team that won the Big 12 Tournament Championship, was ranked as high as #4 nationally and finished with a 19-8 record (11-6 Big 12) in the COVID-impacted season.

Before his time with the Longhorns, San Miguel spent the 2019-20 season as an assistant coach/video coordinator with Mountain West Conference member Air Force.

San Miguel was an assistant coach at Talladega College in Talladega, Ala., during the 2018-19 season and helped the Tornadoes tally a 24-8 overall record and advance to the NAIA National Tournament.

Boasting plenty of familiarity with UTA previously, San Miguel served as a graduate assistant coach under Danny Kaspar from 2015-18 at rival Texas State. During the 2016-17 campaign, the Bobcats posted a 22-14 overall record to earn their first winning season in 14 years and their first postseason appearance in 20 years as TXST participated in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT).

San Miguel was the head coach at Hill Country Christian School in San Marcos for two seasons (2013-15). He led Hill Country to the Second Round of the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) state playoffs in both seasons and posted an undefeated district record in 2014-15.

San Miguel served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2007-11 as an infantry team leader/company land navigator and was stationed at USMC Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, Calif. He earned his bachelor's degree in Health and Wellness Promotion from Texas State in 2016 and received his Master of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas State in 2018.

San Miguel joins assistant coaches Keith Pickens, Jeremy Pope and Sean Stout on Turner's initial staff. Additional hires will continue to be announced over the coming days and weeks.
