ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team dropped both games in Saturday's doubleheader against Tarleton with final scores of 10-7 and 6-5 from Allan Saxe Field.
UTA moves on to a 19-26 overall record and are 9-11 in conference play.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: vs Tarleton (L, 10-7)
Sophie Wideman (2-4) and
Zaia Castruita (2-4, 2 RBI) paced UTA's bats with multi-hit efforts as Castruita launched a two-run home run – her first of the year.
Senior
Reagan Hukill (1-4, 3 RBI) was responsible for tying things up in the bottom of the sixth as the righty belted a three-run shot.
Morgan Westbrook (1-1),
Meagan Smith (1-4, 1 RBI),
Alaina Hampton (1-2) and
Lindsey Franklin (1-2) also contributed to UTA's nine-hit total.
Gracie Bumpurs and
Jessica Adams shared time in the circle as Bumpurs earned the start. The junior went on to toss four innings, allowing two earned runs off five hits. Adams came in and threw for the remainder of the game, also allowing five hits.
With the Mavericks unable to plate any more runs, Adams was credited with the loss.
PLAY BY PLAY: vs Tarleton (L, 10-7)
- The Texans scored early in the top of the first with three off a UTA error and an RBI-ground out.
- UTA made it a one-run game in the bottom of the second courtesy of a two-run from the bat of Castruita – her first of the season.
- Tarleton added one to the board in the top of the fifth off a Maverick error, making it a 4-2 game.
- UTA answered back with one as Smith tabbed an RBI-ground out that scored Neises from third.
- The Texans took a 6-3 lead in the sixth after a two-run home run from Kelci Hill.
- Senior Hukill answered big with a three-run shot that tied things up 6-6 in the bottom of the sixth.
- Tarleton piled on four additional runs in the top of the seventh, taking the lead 10-6.
- Despite UTA scoring its seventh run of the game, it wasn't quite enough as the team fell to the Texans, 10-7.

Marley Neises led the way going 2-4 at the plate.
Hukill (1-3, 2 RBI),
Sophie Wideman (1-3), Hampton (1-3) and Franklin (1-2, 1 RBI) all came away with one hit apiece.
Adams started on the mound for the Mavs as she nearly threw a complete game, coming away with four strike outs before Bumpurs tossed the final inning of the contest.
The Mavs fell just short, handing Adams the loss.
PLAY BY PLAY: vs Tarleton (L, 6-5)
- The Mavericks scored early in the bottom of the second with two from an RBI-single from Franklin and a Texan error.
- Tarleton's solo shot from Austin Germain made it a one-run game in the top of the third.
- The Texans took the lead 3-2 in the top of the sixth with a sacrifice fly to right field.
- The Mavs fought back with a three-run sixth inning after RBI's from Hukill and Westbrook that made it a 5-3 game.
- Unfortunately, TSU went on to win game two off a pair of RBI-singles and a bases-loaded walk for a final score of 6-5.

UTA will wrap up its series with Tarleton on Sunday, Apr. 30 with a 12 p.m. start time from Allan Saxe Field.
