ARLINGTON, Texas– The UT Arlington men's tennis team (10-7, 1-0 WAC) is set to face Abilene Christian and New Mexico State in their final home matches of the season. They will face the Wildcats at 2 p.m. Thursday and the Aggies at 10 a.m. Saturday at the UTA Tennis Center.
The Mavericks started off WAC play with a 6-1 win over UT Rio Grande Valley. The defeated the Vaqueros at all but one court in straight sets.
Freshman
Lachlan Robertson is heading into the week with his tenth win of the season. He earned a straight-set victory over Te Kani Williams on Court 4 to move to 10-4 on the season.
Anton Shepp continued his success on Court 1 by earning another victory for the Mavs. He defeated Emilien Burnel 6-4, 6-4 to move to 11-4 on the season.
Dante Teramo is on a four-match winning streak, tallying wins over Lamar, Wichita State, Furman and UTRGV. He moved to 9-4 on Court 6 against the Vaqueros, taking out Agustin Salazar 6-2, 7-6 (3).
Shepp and
Solano Caffarena have been dominant in doubles play on Court 1. They earned their first conference win over UTRGV's Burnel and Borna Devald 6-3 to move to 9-3 on the season. They are also coming off a strong win over No. 39 Oklahoma, defeating Alex Martinez and Justin Schlateger 6-3.
Teramo and
Santiago Giamichelle have also been key in doubles success, with wins over UTRGV, Texas A&M- Corpus Christi and Wichita State this season. They defeated UTRGV's Karlo Krolo and Sam Whitehead 6-4 for their first conference win.
SCOUTING ABILENE CHRISTIAN
The Wildcats are 11-9 on the season and 2-0 in WAC play. They have defeated conference opponents Grand Canyon and Seattle, as well as New Mexico State in a non-conference match. The Mavericks and Wildcats are tied 3-3 in overall meetings, with ACU winning their last match 4-3 in 2022.
SCOUTING NEW MEXICO STATE
The Aggies hold a 3-14 record on the season and are 1-1 in WAC play. They fell to Seattle 4-3 and defeated Grand Canyon 4-3. The Mavericks hold a 10-5 record over the Aggies after winning their last match 4-3 in 2019.
