NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The UT Arlington softball team (15-18, 5-5) picked up a big road win Sunday night as the Mavericks claimed game one of the three-game series at Stephen F. Austin with a final score of 6-3.
The Lumberjacks currently rank #2 in the Western Athletic Conference with a 6-3 record heading into this weekend's series. Solid defense and timely hitting led the Mavericks to the win, handing SFA its fourth loss in conference play.

The Mavericks pieced nine hits together Sunday night as
Morgan Westbrook paced UTA's offense going 3-4 at the plate with one RBI.
Reagan Hukill and
Marley Neises also came away with multi-hit efforts.
Infielders
Meagan Smith (1-3) and
Lindsey Franklin (1-3) also contributed to the nine-hit total after coming away with one hit each.
Junior
Gracie Bumpurs earned the start in the circle against the Lumberjacks as she went on to throw 4.2 innings of work, allowing three runs off four hits.
Sophomore
Jessica Adams appeared in the fifth inning, facing eight batters. With the Mavericks 6-3 victory, Bumpurs was credited with her sixth win of the season.
PLAY BY PLAY: at Stephen F. Austin (W, 6-3)
- Singles from Westbrook and Smith, and a walk from Wideman loaded the bases in the top of the first. However, UTA was unable to plate any across.
- In the bottom of the second, SFA took a 1-0 lead off an infield single from the bat of Mallory Webb.
- The Mavericks took a 3-1 lead after Cortemelia reached on an error by the second baseman which cleared the bases for UTA in the top of the third.
- In the top of the fifth inning, Neises led things off with a triple off the left center wall before Meagan Smith extended the Mavs' lead to 4-1 with an RBI-ground out that brought Neises across.
- The Lumberjacks went on to make it a one-run game (4-3) in the bottom of the fifth after back-to-back singles.
- Westbrook made it a 6-3 ball game after the junior smacked a line drive off the pitcher's glove which brought around two more for the Mavericks in the top of the seventh.
- Adams went on to keep the 'Jacks off the board, leading to a 6-3 victory.
ON DECK
The Mavericks will take the field again Monday, Apr. 10 for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. from SFA Softball Field.
