UTA Splits DH; Clinches Series Over SFA

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Fifth year Sophie Wideman led the UT Arlington softball team (16-19, 6-6) to a 3-2 extra-inning win, clinching the series against the Lumberjacks Monday from SFA Softball Field.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Mavericks' offense struggled to feed off any momentum, falling to the 'Jacks 3-0 in the final game of the series.

Three Mavs finished with five hits on the series as junior Morgan Westbrook hit .556, coming away with two RBI and a .556 slugging percentage.

Marley Neises (2-3, 1 RBI) and Lindsey Franklin (2-3) led the Mavericks' offense Monday as the pair put up multi-hit efforts.

Reagan Hukill (1-3), Morgan Westbrook (1-3, 1 RBI), Sophie Wideman (1-4, 1 RBI), Kimber Cortemelia (1-3) and Zaia Castruita (1-4) all contributed to UTA's nine-hit total.

It was Wideman who was responsible for the winning run as the catcher belted a solo shot to take the lead in the top of the eighth inning.

In the circle, Gracie Bumpurs got the start as she went on to toss 4.1 innings, limiting the Lumberjacks to just two hits.

Sophomore Jessica Adams came in for Bumpurs and threw the remainder of the game. The righty allowed three hits across 14 batters faced.

The Mavs clinched the series with the 3-2 win, giving Adams her ninth win of the season.
