Lady Mavs Add Seattle U's Leading Scorer Clark Via Transfer Portal

5-11 guard averaged nearly 11 PPG for Redhawks last year as a sophomore

ARLINGTON, Texas --- Taliyah Clark, a 5-11 guard from Seattle U who just this March engineered an upset of the Lady Mavs in the opening round of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) tournament, has decided to join the UT Arlington women's basketball program after entering the transfer portal.

The Lynnwood, Wash. native scored 432 points, or 7.6 per contest over 57 career outings at Seattle U. In three career WAC tournament games, the clutch sharpshooter averaged 19.3 points while shooting 19-of-34 (.559) from the field and 11-of-17 (.647) from long distance.

In her final act with the Redhawks this past season, Clark nearly led her 11th-seeded team to the WAC semifinals. In the opening round, she poured in 23 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead an upset of the No. 6 Lady Mavs. In the quarterfinals, she secured 22 more points on 5-of-7 shooting from long distance before nearly upsetting No. 3 Grand Canyon in a five-point loss. Overall, Clark averaged 22.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and one steal in the tournament.

"Taliyah adds size and experience to the wing position for us," UT Arlington head coach Shereka Wright said. "We can play her inside and out in our system. She will be able to keep the floor spread as she has deep range and the ability to finish at the rim. Taliyah knows what the WAC is all about and is looking to help us compete for a championship."

After starting all four years and scoring over 1,000 career points at Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle, Clark joined her hometown Seattle U program for the 2021-22 season, where she averaged 4.3 points per contest in 11.5 minutes per game off the bench. She made the most of her limited playing time, shooting 45-of-86 (.523) from the field and 14-of-35 (.400) from long distance while totaling three games in double-figure scoring. She made her first career start in the first round of the WAC tournament, pouring in 13 points along with five rebounds against UTRGV.

As a sophomore in 2022-23, Clark broke out by averaging a team-best 10.8 points along with 1.7 assists and 1.1 steals. She also averaged 3.6 rebounds per game, doubling her rookie year average. Overall, she started 27 of 29 games while shooting 97-of-284 (.342) from the field, 53-of-181 (.293) from 3-point range and 65-of-81 (.802) from the charity stripe. She totaled 15 games in double-digit scoring, including four with 20-plus points over the course of the campaign, which was highlighted by a career-high 25-point performance against Utah Valley on Jan. 26 in which she tied a Seattle U single-game record with seven 3-point field goals made. Clark finished one rebound shy of a double-double twice during the season while also managing seven games with multiple steals, highlighted by a season-high six against Sam Houston on Feb. 2. On top of that, she had 14 games with multiple assists.

A 2022-23 Academic All-WAC honoree, Clark joins a tremendous group of newcomers on next year's team including: Kali Haizlip (College of Southern Idaho), Gia Adams (Tennessee State), Adéla Válková (UTEP), DJ McFarlane (Tennessee Tech), Ari Lee (Moberly Area Community College), Mango Mutanda (Jacksonville State), Hannah Humphrey (Blinn College), Miraya Perkins (Dallas Boswell High School) and Aubrey Reid (Stephen. F. Austin High School).
