HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The UT Arlington baseball team (25-23, 15-10 WAC) fell to the WAC leading Sam Houston Bearkats (30-20, 19-6 WAC) in 7 innings on Friday night at Don Sanders Stadium, 12-2.
The Mavericks had six hits as a team, led by
Tyce Armstrong who hit his first collegiate home run.
Tyson Pointer finished 1-3 with an RBI for the game.
Wilson Galvan extended his reached base safely streak to 35 games with a base hit and scored a run. Rounding out the offense,
Cade Sumbler finished with a double while
Garrison Berkley and
Matt Cavanagh each finished with a base hit.
Gabe Starks got the start on the mound, going 4.1 innings and giving up 10 runs, nine earned, on 10 hits.
Bryce Hackett finished the game for the Mavs, tossing the final 1.2 innings and giving up two runs on four hits.
Sam Houston jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning and added three more runs in the 3rd to go up 6-0 before UTA responded with a run of their own in the 4th via the Armstrong solo home run.
The Bearkats plated four more runs in the 5th to go up 10-1. The Mavs scored their final run in the 6th thanks to a bloop single down the left field line off the bat of Pointer. Sam Houston would go on to score two runs in the bottom of the 6th to go up 10 runs and would keep UTA from extending the game in the 7th to earn the victory.
