Mavs Reside in 3rd After Shortened Day 1 at Remax Prime Properties Bearkat Invite

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – With a 1st-round 301, the UT Arlington women's golf team resides in 3rd place after day one of Sam Houston's Remax Prime Properties Bearkat Invitational from Elkins Lake Country Club.

The event's layout was originally set for 36 holes Monday, Sept. 25 followed by the final round on Tuesday, Sept. 26 but inclement weather caused for day one to be shortened to 18.

As a team, the Mavericks ranked high with the second-best par-4 (4.29) and par-5 (5.13) scoring average across the leader board.

Sophomore Madison Le led UTA's lineup with an opening-round 74 as she is currently tied for 10th place. The Texas native tabbed a team-high of four birdies throughout her round while sitting in 3rd across the 62-player field.

INSIDE THE SCORES
Le
  • Despite carding five bogeys across the opening 10 holes (9-18), the sophomore was able to roll her first pair of birdies which came on holes 10 and 16 before making the turn. Le managed to get her card back down to +1 – courtesy of back-to-back birdies on holes 1 and 2. Two additional bogeys on 4 and 8 led Le to a 1st-round 74.
Manikandesh
  • Aside from a pair of bogeys on 10 and 18, Manikandesh's opening-nine was nearly flawless before entering the front side – her back side. The sophomore went on to play the closing nine in +4 with one birdie coming on 7.
Gulhane
  • Gulhane logged a 1st-round 76 as the freshman's card featured 13 pars and five bogeys. The newcomer was one of three Mavs who didn't card anything higher than a bogey throughout Monday's round.
Gabel
  • Gabel kicked off tournament action on hole 12 as she shot in even through the first nine holes with her first birdie on 13. Unfortunately, the sophomore put up four bogeys and a double over the final nine that derailed her momentum. However, Gabel managed to roll her second birdie which came on 6.
Choi
  • Choi struggled to find her groove as the fifth year turned in a 1st-round 79. Choi's card consisted of two doubles, six bogeys, eight pars and two birdies – which came on 5 and 13.
NEXT UP
Heading into Tuesday's round, UTA will look to make a jump in the leader board as the Mavericks sit just one shot shy of 2nd place. The Mavs will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start from Elkins Lake Country Club.
