BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The UT Arlington cross country teams finished out the regular season at the highly touted Arturo Barrios Invitational on Friday morning at the Watts Cross Country Course hosted by Texas A&M.
The men finished 26th overall as a team with 674 points while the women finished 29th with a total of 744 points. Out of the three Western Athletic Conference (WAC) schools competing, the women finished ahead of both Abilene Christian and Tarleton State while the men finished ahead of Abilene Christian but behind Tarleton State.
The meet was highlighted by a pair of top 100 finishers in
Matro Jepkemboi and
Winnie Kipsang. Jepkemboi finished 34th with a season's best time of 20:10.5 in the 6k while Kipsang finished 69th overall with a personal best time of 20:41.9.
Freshman
Emilia Mandl continues to improve with every race, finishing with a personal best of 22:03.6 in the 6k and 175 points.
Claire Compher attributed 232 points with a 22:44.5 finish while freshman
Quinn Dixon finished with a personal best of 22:47.6 and 237 points to round out the top five finishers for the women.
Justina Lusby also posted a personal best of 23:08.5.
The theme for the top five finishers on the men's side was personal bests', with three of the top five finishers posting a new PR led by
Patrick Estes with a top 100 finish, placing 63rd overall in the 8k. Estes posted a personal best time of 23:50.3.
Brian Guevara ran a personal best of 24:32.0 to notch 133 points.
Rogelio Aguirre finished with a time of 24:41.2 to gain 148 points.
Josue Granados posted a personal best of 24:44.7, collecting 156 points. Andrés Gurrola rounded out the top five finishers with a time of 24:53.7, garnering 176 points.
This was the last regular season meet for the Mavericks before the WAC Cross Country Championships, which take place two weeks from today on Nov. 1 from the campus of Utah Valley in Orem.
