ARLINGTON, Texas – UTA junior guard
Brody Robinson is one of several newcomers to head coach
KT Turner's program for the 2024-25 season. The Garden City CC transfer was the Jayhawk Conference Newcomer of the Year last season, and he also led the Broncbusters in scoring at a 20.4 points per game clip and also dished out a nation-leading 8.4 assists per game.
UTAMavs.com sat down with the Houston native following Tuesday's practice:
What is a random fact about you?
"I grew up in a house full of dogs – three dogs at my mom's house and one at my dad's. I had a maltese, a chiweenie, a border collie husky and a maltipoo."
What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?
"Just be the best version of yourself and don't try to compare yourself to others. Just worry about being the best version of yourself, live the best life you can. It's just been the way I was brought up by my parents – to be happy and spread happiness to the world and try to be a light in people's lives."
What is your favorite home-cooked meal?
Chicken Alfredo. Chicken alfredo 100% with some good seasoning. There's nothing better. My mom, my dad, my stepmom, they can all cook it really well."
What's the last song you listened to?
"That's a good question. Probably something by either Gunna or Zach Bryan. That's two very different people, but with country it kind of calms me and hip hop and rap kind of gets me going, so I like the combination."
What's your favorite sports memory?
"Probably winning the Under Armour tournament my last year of AAU, we won the UAA, so that was really special for me and that's where I got my first offer. I think that was the best moment I've had up to this day."
Why UTA?
"Oh man, the coaching staff, the atmosphere, it's close to home. I just love everything about it. I just trust these coaches and I know that they have a plan for me and I know that I can really excel and be the best version of myself here."
What do you like to do in your free time?
"I really love to be around family and friends, I like to golf, I like to bowl, I play video games. I'm kind of just a normal guy – I don't really do too much. I like to shop, I like to spend some money, I won't lie [laughing]. It's shoes and clothes for me, they're my top two for sure, but I'm also a very giving person, so I like to buy things for other people, whether that's my mom, my girlfriend, friends or anybody."
What is your favorite place you've traveled?
"Oh, Paris, 100%! I went to Paris when I was in middle school or going into high school, one of the two. Hands down the best trip I've ever been on – I saw the Louvre, obviously the Eiffel Tower and I just was around my family – my little sister, my older brother. my dad and my stepmom. It was just the best experience I've had."
Any significance to the number 55 for you?
"Yeah, it was a number I chose because a guy I know, Antino Jackson, Jr., I really looked up to him a lot and worked out with him a lot in the gym. He was an inspiration as a smaller guard, he had one offer out of high school, I had one offer out of high school, so it felt right.:
Who is your biggest inspiration?
"I would say my family members. My dad, who has worked his butt off to get to where he's at right now. My mom is a very strong woman and she'll do anything to make the people around her happy, so I think a combination of those two, and then obviously my siblings. I have an older brother, Blake, who truly carved the path for me. Not a lot of people see that, but I've always known it so I try to give back to them as much as I can."
Do you have any pregame rituals?
"I pray before every game. I pray during the national anthem, actually. You know how some people tie their shoes a certain way? I don't do anything like that, or any sock things. I just put on my music, I get kind of in my own mode, I get some shots up and pray before the game and I'll be ready to go."
Do you think you could take KT one-on-one?
"Oh, of course. He's getting old now. I'd probably just go by him every play. It would be fun – if we're playing to 15, I'd give him 14 and I'd win it 15-14."
