MBB: Mavs Bounce Back, Beat Texas College 95-69

ARLINGTON, Texas – UT Arlington men's basketball bounced back on Friday night and got back in the win column with a comfortable 95-69 win over Texas College at the College Park Center.

"I'm really happy for the guys with how they bounced back," head coach KT Turner said following Friday night's win. "We had a long trip back from California, got right back and went straight to the film room and then the guys had to get up this morning for shootaround and come to the game, so I know they were fatigued. I'm just happy how they fought through it. But we do have three games in three days in a week-and-a-half or so, which is just like the conference tournament, so it's good for us right now early in the year to learn how to fight through fatigue and play games back-to-back."

The Mavs showcased a balanced scoring attack, as six players scored in double figures – guard Jaden Wells (16 in 19 minutes), guard Brandyn Talbot (15 on 4-of-8 from distance), guard Brody Robinson (14), forward Jaxon Ellingsworth (13), guard Darius Burford (12) and forward Troy Hupstead (12, all of which came in the second half).

UTA's depth was on display, as the bench outscored that of the Steers, 47-13. The Mavericks also dominated the glass, outrebounding Texas College 52-30. Burford led the team in boards, with seven.

"Playing-wise, I liked that we came out and defended," Turner continued. "I thought they scored too many points from what we wanted them to, but we did really share the ball today. I'm really happy about that, I think we had 26 assists, so the last two games we are sharing the ball a lot better than what we did against Louisiana Tech, so I'm really happy about that."

Robinson finished with a season-high in points (15) and assists (eight) coming off the bench for the first time this year. Turner shuffled the lineup, inserting Talbot, Burford and sophomore guard Kade Douglas.

UTA shot over 50% for the second consecutive game (51.6%), including 12 three-pointers, and were again strong from the charity stripe, shooting 19-23 for the second consecutive game, which included a stretch of 31 consecutive makes.

The Mavs travel next to Springfield, Missouri, to take on Missouri State, who are 1-1 on the young season with a game against Tulsa at home on Saturday afternoon. UTA and the Bears tip off Tuesday night at 7 p.m. CT from the Great Southern Bank Arena, and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and on the radio on 102.5 FM and KTNO 620 AM with the voice of the Mavs, Josh Sours.
