BRYAN – COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The UT Arlington men's and women's cross country teams ended the 2024 campaign at the NCAA South Central Regional Friday morning at the Watts Cross Country Course down in Aggieland, with the men finishing 18th overall and the women 21st as a team.
The Mavs were spearheaded by none other than
Matro Jepkemboi, who finished 18th overall with a time of 20:06.2 in a crowded field in the women's 6k. Jepkemboi just missed qualifying for the NCAA Championships for the second year in a row by just four runners.
Winnie Kipsang finished 87th with a time of 21:39.1, the only other Mav to finish in the top 100 on the women's side.
Emilia Mandl continued her successful freshman campaign, running a personal best of 21:58.7 to place 108th overall. Fellow freshman
Abigail Perez placed 176th with a time of 23:22.0. Rounding out the top five finishers for the women was junior
Claire Compher who finished with a time of 23:37.9 to place 183rd overall.
On the men's side, three Mavericks placed in the top 100, led by
Patrick Estes who came in 42nd overall with a time of 31:05.1.
Jackson Cichon finished with a time of 32:03.3 for an 85th place finish.
Brian Guevara finished not far behind Cichon, placing 89th overall with a time of 32:09.1.
Josue Granados finished 130th overall with a time of 33:03.2 with
Brandon Wilk rounding out the top five finishers for the men, coming in at 141st with a time of 33:20.0.

Arkansas won the women's event with 80 points, followed by Texas (81), Tulane (107), LSU (110), SMU (119), Texas A&M (164), Lamar (171), Rice (252), Texas A&M – Corpus Christi (361), Central Arkansas (381), Baylor (386), Arkansas State (416), Houston Christian (441), North Texas (449), Houston (465), New Orleans (482), Stephen F. Austin (484), TCU (488), Louisiana (489), Little Rock (504), UTA (551), UTRGV (570), Incarnate Word (580), Sam Houston (624), Abilene Christian (625), McNeese State (665), Tarleton State (677), Nicholls State (760) and UTSA (819).
Winning the men's event was Arkansas with 33 points, followed by Tulane (76), Texas (84), Texas A&M (127), Incarnate Word (163), TCU (238), Sam Houston (254), Stephen F. Austin (254), Tarleton State (267), Arkansas State (282), Rice (289), North Texas (316), Houston (318), Lamar (397), Central Arkansas (431), Abilene Christian (435), Texas State (437), UTA (458), ULM (471), Houston Christian (506), Louisiana (521), McNeese State (601), UTSA (658), UTRGV (698), Nicholls State (771) and Texas Southern (785).
