CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas– The UT Arlington men's tennis team is set to travel to Texas A&M- Corpus Christi on Friday to compete in the H-E-B Tournament of Champions. The tournament lasts from Friday to Sunday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
The Mavericks are set to face DePaul at 1 p.m. on Friday and New Mexico State at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Sunday's matches have yet to be announced. The other participating schools include Abilene Christian, UL-Lafayette and host school Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
The Mavericks are looking to come back from their most recent 5-2 loss against Rice.
Against the Owls,
Dante Teramo and
Joan Torres Espinosa earned a strong doubles win on Court 1 over Trinity Grear and Yasha Zemel. The pair improved to 2-0 on the spring season and 6-2 overall with the 6-3 win.
Espinosa and Teramo also had strong singles showings, earning wins on Courts 1 and 3 to put the Mavericks on the scoreboard. Espinosa fought hard to defeat Zemel in a third-set tiebreaker after dropping the first set 6-4. Teramo also won in the deciding-set tiebreaker, defeating Arthus de la Bassetiere for his fourth win of the season.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
DePaul holds a 3-3 record with a win over Wisconsin. Abilene Christian holds a 6-4 record on the season, with a win over Texas Tech. UL-Lafayette holds a 3-6 record, New Mexico State holds a 4-3 record and host team Texas A&M Corpus Christi holds a 6-2 record.
