ARLINGTON– The UT Arlington men's tennis team (4-4) looks to return to the UTA Tennis Center on Tuesday to take on Texas Tech at 2 p.m.
The team is coming off a 1-1 weekend at the H-E-B Tournament of Champions. They took a close loss 4-3 to DePaul then bounced back the next day, defeating New Mexico State 4-0.
Joan Torres Espinosa remains the only Maverick undefeated after he took two straight-set wins over the course of the weekend. He also had a strong showing in UTA's match against Rice, where he triumphed in the third set tiebreaker.
Dante Teramo has also been solid for the Mavs, dropping only four games total in the weekend tournament. The two wins, as well as a strong win over Rice, put him at a 6-2 record for the spring and 10-7 overall.
In doubles action,
Pedro Sasso and
Andres Medus hold the highest record at 3-1. The pair have played primarily Courts 2 and 3 so far and went 1-1 on the weekend.
SCOUTING TEXAS TECH
The Red Raiders currently hold a 5-3 record in the spring season. In their most recent match, they defeated UT San Antonio 4-1. They have defeated WAC opponent UT Rio Grande Valley and taken a loss to Abilene Christian. The Mavericks hold a 2-9 record against the Red Raiders after their last meeting in 2021. Their last win was in 2001, when the Mavs won 4-2 at the UTA Tennis Center.
The Red Raiders have two singles players ranked in the ITA National Rankings. Reed Collier falls at No. 55, while Olle Wallin holds the No. 80 position. They do not have any doubles teams ranked.
