Women's Tennis Defeats Houston 4-1 In Road Match

HOUSTON— The UT Arlington women's tennis team (7-3) earned their fourth consecutive win over Houston on Saturday , winning 4-1.

The Mavs dominated in doubles play, dropping only three games in the winning matches.

Bruna Casasampere and Francisca Vergara took care of business on Court 2, as the pair defeated Laura Slisane and Elena Trencheva. The pair took the 6-2 win to mark their sixth win of the season.

Court 3 clinched the point as Sarina Reinertsen and Ana Paula Jimenez earned their fifth win of the spring. They lost only one game to Gabriela Cortes and Blanca Cortijo Parreno, taking the set 6-1 to secure the early lead.

Despite the Cougars making a small singles push to get them on the scoreboard, the Mavericks were successful in their pursuit of three wins to decide the 4-1 victory.

Casasampere started the Mavs off strong, taking Court 6 over Sonya Kovalenko in straight sets. She dominated in set 1 for a 6-1 score, then followed up with another 6-1 win in the second. The win marks her seventh win of the spring and thirteenth win overall.

The Cougars earned a point on Court 5 to bring the score to 2-1 as Parreno took a straight set victory over Vergara. Parreno played a strong first set, allowing Vergara only one game for the 6-1 win. Vergara could not recover in the second, falling 6-1 for the match.

The Mavs bounced back with a win on Court 4, as Mariana Manyoma-Velasquez secured her seventh win of the spring. The first set against Cortes came down to two games, with Manyoma-Velasquez triumphing 6-4. She played an even stronger second set, winning 6-2 to put the match at 3-1.

Reinertsen secured the final win in a comeback on Court 2 over Sophie Schouten. Schouten played a strong first set, dropping only two games to go up 6-2. Reinertsen battled back in the second to even the score, winning 6-4 by two games. The momentum carried into the final set, where Reinertsen completed the comeback with a 6-2 win. \

Tara Gorinsek and Jimenez both went unfinished in their matches. Gorinsek was down in the second set after winning the first on Court 1, while Jimenez was tied at 2-2 in the third set on Court 3.

The Mavericks will play their next two matches in Oklahoma. They are set to face Oral Roberts (2 p.m.) on March 2 and Tulsa on March 3 (11 a.m.).
