ARLINGTON, Texas – A strong showing in the fourth quarter for Utah Tech (13-9, 7-4 WAC) was the key to knock off UT Arlington (10-11, 6-5 WAC) 72-60 inside the College Park Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Mavs had two players in double figures with
Avery Brittingham leading the charge, putting up 13 points and grabbing 13 rebounds for her second straight double-double and 8th overall. She also had six assists and one block in 30 minutes of action.
Gia Adams finished with 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal.
Before the game, Adams was honored at mid-court with a special presentation for her 1000th career point that she posted last Saturday at Grand Canyon.
Nya Threatt chipped in with seven points, three assists, three steals and two rebounds in 30 minutes.
Taliyah Clark finished with seven points, four rebounds and one assist.
Masengo Mutanda and Adela Valkova both finished with six points, respectively.
In a game where both teams were evenly matched, it featured four lead changes and three ties with both UTA (21:07) and Utah Tech (16:06) led the game for more than 15 minutes each.
The Lady Mavs came out scorching hot, putting up 28 points in the first quarter, tied for the most points in a quarter for UTA this season. The Lady Mavs went 11-for-21 from the floor, 4-for-6 from deep and a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line in the first quarter.
UTA struggled in the second quarter, scoring 6 points on 3-of-16 shooting and not connecting on any of their six three-point attempts. The Lady Mavs also didn't get to the free throw line in the second. We went into halftime with the game tied at 34 points apiece.
It was an exciting third quarter that saw the Trailblazers go on their best scoring run of 10 and go up by as many as nine points. The Lady Mavs would end the quarter on their own 10-0 run and seen themselves retake the lead with 20 seconds left in the third. UTA would get the first bucket of the fourth quarter to push their scoring run to 12, their best run for the game.
The fourth quarter saw UTA's shooting struggles from the second quarter return in the fourth while Utah Tech put up 25 points, the most points they scored in a quarter for the game. The Lady Mavs shot 19-percent from the floor in the fourth, despite not taking bad shots they just were not falling like they were to start the game.

The Lady Mavs will wrap up their three-game homestand next Thursday, Feb. 8, as they host California Baptist. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
