EL PASO, Texas– The UT Arlington women's tennis team (3-0) defeated UT El Paso 4-1 on Wednesday in their first stop in their series of road matches. They are set to take on New Mexico State on Thursday at noon before they travel back to Arlington.
 
The doubles point came down to Court 3, with the Mavericks finishing victorious.
 
Tara Gorinsek and Mariana Manyoma-Velasquez started the team off strong, earning the first win on Court 1. They defeated Veronika Lebisova and Zuzanna Szczepanska 6-4 for their first win as a pair.
 
The Miners tied up the doubles score with a win on Court 2 over Bruna Casasampere and Francisca Vergara. Carlotta Mencaglia and Hanna Telzynska took the match 6-2, leaving the doubles point up to Court 3.
 
Sarina Reinertsen and Ana Paula Jimenez clinched the early lead for the Mavs, taking the final match over DeCora Antoine and Elena Dibattista. The 6-2 win gave the Mavs a 1-0 advantage going into singles play.
 
The Mavericks carried the doubles momentum into singles action, dropping only one point for the 4-1 win.
 
Casasampere was the first off, earning a straight-set win on Court 6. She defeated Paloma Hennicaux 6-0, 7-5 to put the Mavs up 2-0 in the match and move to 3-0 in the spring season.
 
Jimenez put the Mavs one point away from the win, dropping only two games against Telzynska on Court 4. After earning a strong 6-0 win in the first set, Jimenez allowed only two games in the second for the 6-2 win.
 
In a tough match on Court 2, the Miners earned a point over Reinertsen. Lebisova took the first set 6-2 before Reinertsen fought back in the second set to force a tiebreaker. She could not overcome Lebisova in the tiebreaker, dropping the second set 7-6 (0).
 
In her second singles win of the season, Manyoma-Velasquez secured the match in straight sets for the Mavericks. On Court 3, each set came down to two games against Szczepanska, with Manyoma-Velasquez finishing with the 6-4, 6-4 win.
 
Gorinsek and Vergara did not finish their matches as the results had already been decided. Nika Novikova played in an extra match, where she won 6-0, 6-2.
 
The Mavericks look to take on New Mexico State at 12 p.m. on Thursday in Las Cruces, N.M. Their next home match is set for Saturday at 11 a.m. against SMU. Taco Casa is scheduled to provide free tacos to those in attendance at the UTA Tennis Center.
