FORT WORTH – The UT Arlington Maverick baseball team fell to #18 TCU Horned Frogs 3-7, at Lupton Baseball Stadium this Tuesday in Fort Worth
It was an extremely slow start for the Mavericks, as they quickly fell behind 3-0 to the Horned Frogs in the first 3 innings. The Mavs were only able to muster 1 hit in those first three innings, which came from a single by
Tyson Pointer.
The Horned Frogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the 4th, however the Maverick bullpen were able to keep the TCU bats quiet throughout the 4th and 5th frames, allowing just 2 hits.
The Mavs were able to gain some momentum in the top of the 6th as the squad was able to load the bases off a walk from
Ryan Ellis and
Parker Airhart and a single from
Tate Bethel. The Mavs were able to score a run thanks to an 8-pitch at bat from
Tyce Armstrong that resulted in a walk, which brought home
Ryan Ellis.
Cason Gregory was able to smoke an RBI single up the middle to plate Airhart and Bethel to shorten the deficit to just 1 run, 4-3.
The Horned Frogs quickly struck back in the bottom of the 6th however, plating 3 runs of its own to jump back out to a 4-run lead, 7-3. For the rest of the game no runs were scored by either team as the Mavs drop its third-straight game, 7-3.
PITCHING PROFILE
The Mavs rolled with 7 different pitchers on the day, with
Austin Wallace getting the start.
Joe Steeber pitched 1.1 innings and was able to strike out 1 batter, allowed no walks and gave up just 1 hit from the five batters he faced.
Jason Scrantom pitched 1.0 inning and was also able to ring up a TCU batter. The Junior from Sachse, TX faced six total batters in his lone inning.

The Mavericks will host the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks in a weekend conference series from Mar. 22-24 at Clay Gould Ballpark.
