Mavericks Fall to No. 1 Oklahoma in Five Innings

NORMAN, Okla. – Despite a strong start, the UT Arlington softball team suffered a midweek loss at No. 1 Oklahoma Wednesday from the Sooners' newly debuted field, Love's Field.

Up to this point, UTA is just the sixth team that has scored first against the reigning national champions across 29 games played for OU. Now, the Mavs move on to an overall record of 10-17.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: at No. 1 Oklahoma (L, 12-1) 5 Innings
UTA's Camille Corona is on a nine-game hitting streak after collecting a 2-3 performance at the plate against the Sooners. It was Corona's lead-off bunt single in the top of the first that got things going for the Mavericks' first base runner. Two batters later, Marley Neises laid a sacrifice bunt down before a throwing error brought Corona around to score UTA's first and only run of the night.

Fifth year Lindsey Franklin is a top offensive performer in the Mavericks' lineup after the infielder finished 2-3, making that her ninth multi-hit game of the season. Now, Franklin sits on an impressive .400 batting average with 30 hits – just one behind Corona.

Freshman Kaitlyn Sailor was responsible for the Mavs' fifth hit of the night as the righty nearly missed a home run, launching double off the center field wall which marked her third of the year.

On the mound, head coach Kara Dill gave Jade Moreno her seventh start of the season as she went on to throw just over one inning before senior Gracie Bumpurs entered the circle.

Abi Gutierrez tossed the remainder of the game as the rotation allowed five earned off a total of 12 hits. In five innings, Moreno was handed the loss.

ON DECK
UTA will continue WAC play with a three-game series at Tarleton beginning with the first on Friday, Mar. 22 followed by a double header on Saturday, Mar. 23.
