STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Despite scoring first, the UT Arlington softball team dropped its series opener at Tarleton Friday night with a final score of 7-5.
The Texans earned their first conference win as the Mavericks move on to an overall record of 10-18 and 1-2 in WAC play.

UTA's
Kaylee Cavazos (2-3) and
Zaia Castruita (2-3) led the team offensively with multi-hit performances as infielder Castruita raised her overall batting average to .310 on the season.
Power-hitter
Lindsey Franklin continues to ignite a spark in head coach
Kara Dill's lineup after the righty belted her fifth home run of the year and 32nd hit. Now, Franklin encompasses a .392 average at the plate with 21 RBI. It was Franklin's two-run shot that gave the Mavs a bump in the top of the third.

Jessica Adams (1-3),
Nikki Donahue (1-3) and
Morgan Westbrook (1-1, 3 RBI).
Junior right-handed pitcher
Jessica Adams got her seventh start of the season in the circle as she allowed five earned runs off 10 hits. Over 47 innings pitched, Adams moves on to a 4-6 record after freshman
Jade Moreno made a brief appearance, tossing just one inning.

UTA will continue its three-game series in Stephenville with a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 23 beginning at 1 p.m. from Tarleton Softball Complex.
