STEPHENVILLE, Texas – After an exciting extra-inning win to split its series with Tarleton, UTA unfortunately dropped the final game on Saturday with a final score of 9-1 in five innings from Tarleton Softball Complex.
The Mavericks move on to an overall record of 11-19 and 2-3 in conference play.
UTA's
Kaitlyn Sailor paced the Mavs at the plate as she finished 3-7 on the day with her second home run of the season in game one. The freshman was responsible for three of UTA's four total runs across Saturday's doubleheader. Now, Sailor holds 13 RBI on the season – third most.

In the extra-inning contest, the Mavericks produced a double-digit total of 11 runs as Sailor and
Zaia Castruita led the way with two hits each. Sailor's long ball put up the go-ahead runs that lifted UTA up 3-1 in the top of the eighth.

Abi Gutierrez as she tossed just her first complete game of the season. The Texas native faced 34 batters, allowing three earned runs off six hits. With the victory, Gutierrez moves on to a record of 4-1.

The Mavs struggled to score despite putting together seven hits as a team. Neises and Westbrook logged multi-hit efforts as Corona (1-3), Sailor (1-3, 1 RBI) and
Nikki Donahue (1-3) came way with one hit apiece.
Corona continues to provide a consistent bat in the Mavericks' lineup as she rides a 12-game hitting streak, dating all the way back to Mar. 1 against Incarnate Word.
Gutierrez tabbed her second consecutive start of the day against the Texans as she went on to throw four innings. The freshman gave up four earned runs off eight hits but was able to log three strike outs.
Jade Moreno and
Emilie Hoelscher shared brief time in the circle as UTA was unsuccessful in answering back at the plate. Gutierrez was handed the loss – her second of the season.

The Mavericks will welcome North Texas to Allan Saxe Field for its second matchup with the Mean Green this season on Tuesday, Mar. 26 at 6 p.m.
