ARLINGTON, Texas – Errors doomed the UT Arlington softball team Tuesday night as the Mavericks suffered a 7-4 midweek loss to North Texas.
Despite a 4-2 lead through five innings, UTA's defense struggled as costly mishaps on the field allowed for the Mean Green to seal the late-inning victory.
Now, UTA moves on to an overall record of 11-20.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: vs North Texas (L, 7-4)
Offensively, the Mavericks pieced four hits together across the night with
Marley Neises belting her fourth home run of the season – a three-run shot – in the bottom of the third that put UTA up 4-1.
Lindsey Franklin (1-4, 1 RBI),
Kaitlyn Sailor (1-3) and
Kaylee Cavazos (1-3) were the ones responsible for the last bit, coming away with one hit apiece.
Junior
Jessica Adams tabbed a fairly solid performance in the circle as she earned her seventh start of the year. Against the Mean Green, Adams held their offense to just one earned run off five hits.
Freshman
Abi Gutierrez tossed the remainder of the contest with just over one inning of work. While on the mound, the left-handed pitcher allowed three runs off two hits. Unfortunately, the Mavericks couldn't answer back giving Gutierrez her third loss of the season.
ON DECK
UTA will look ahead to its series with Southern Utah as the Mavericks will welcome the Thunderbirds for three games beginning with a doubleheader Friday, Mar. 29 at 4 p.m. followed by the final game on Saturday, Mar. 30 at noon from Allan Saxe Field.
